Salt winds rip through a biting day

as tarnished leaves wrinkle the pavement,

twisting crooked for warmth.

Icy air snaps

at wrists and ankles

numbing pallid flesh.

Faces wince, eyes stream

bodies crouch the angry tempest.

I wish I could cradle the waning sun,

staving off  these murky days

of winter.

Hi Maire

Loved your poem

Its Fab! ;-D

Maire I can really feel the bite of winter here, the crouch of the body as you tense against the cold, the wind...vivid and powerful description...

'Icy air snaps

at wrists and ankles

numbing pallid flesh.

Faces wince, eyes stream

bodies crouch the angry tempest.'

Yes, woeful winter indeed..XX

Susanna,

Thanks for your lovely comments. It is another wild day here, terrible winds. The climbing plants on the wall have been battered so much, they are almost on the ground now, there will be nothing left to bud when spring comes. I would prefer the snow any day, hate the winds.upside down I feel rattled. Maire x

Barbara,

The weather is so windy here, hate the turbulence outside as I watch the naked trees tossing and my garden is in tatters with the endless gusts. The winds affect my head, I wish I could close the blinds again and wake up in Spring. Finding winter difficult at the moment, it is raw, biting and ripping through my poor body and mind. Spring soon I hope.thumbs up I think January is a very harsh month here. Maire x

Sorry to hear it, Maire...We get the extremes here in Melbourne in Jan/early FEb also...Ours is the heat and the gale strength winds, electrical storms, flash floods etc etc...Bushfire season here too...

The winds activate all sorts of stress I think, and it's distressing to see the gardens geting savaged...

Calm, clear days are a joy!  We wish for more of them....At both ends of the globe!!

Thinking  of you.... 35 degrees here today and a heat wave for the rest of the week..Actually cooler up on the Gold Coast...where it is 28 degrees..

Weather!!!

XX

Barbara,

Weather indeed!! We are both getting extremes, neither are comfortable for every day living. I will go out today for a walk, I always feel better for it but I really don't want to go out, it is that kind of day. I feel a different person when the weather is calm.  Amazing what it can do to alter my mood.  I have roast dinner ready and we will put it on and head out for a brisk walk and come back, light the fire and have dinner. Warming thoughts, we have to create them and keep the spirits high. Jim is off again tonight to Germany, that causes me imbalance too, the coming and going of life. I will start to travel over and back in Spring/Summer, only when he is working out of Luxembourg. I feel tired like Tydell but it is really weather induced. Time to get the light box out too, will take time to do that today.thumbs up Maire x

Hi Maire !!

I Take these walks every day here in Ireland !!!

Though very cold and wet It still gives you a sense of excitement and freedom !!!

Your poem described my walks on the beach perfectly !! Thanks for sharing.

Kind regards,

Steve

Steve,

I am in Ireland at the moment too, more forgiving weather than Germany where it is snow time for the next few months. There are some very bright sunny days in the snow but equally blizzard conditions that are not fun at all. We have it much milder here and by the sea, a bit windy but bearable. That sense of freedom and my thoughts going with the surf is good, I agree, good to get out and get fresh air.  I am heading out now, wrapped up warm and so glad to have my husband at home for the weekend. Our lives today are so different with the recession. Children living and working n Europe and husband gone too. Tough times but we are all managing to keep our taxes paid. There are good times with the harsh times and it is so good to write about the harsh ones and embrace the ones that keep us moving on.  Thank you for your thoughts. Loved your poem tired, it said so much for me too. Take care, Maire x

Really enjoyed.
