Sweet Enemy

DescriptionA sort of a first attempt at a more 'serious' type of poem.

I went out under cover of darkness
I went down in the dead of the night
To bury my oldest hatchet
To finally make things right

My journey is a long one
And I have many miles to go
We both agreed to meet upon the spot
That only we would know

But in my conscience there’s a whisper
And it rises to a roar
It screams about my history
And a past I can’t ignore

I remember what this person did!
And what she put me through
Her betrayal was a lesson
That beat me black and blue

The heartbreak and the petty lies
Forever changed my life
Anger consumed my waking thoughts
Self-pity filled my nights.

But I was just a child then
With no idea of what to do
I was foolish
I was headstrong
Yes I was guilty too.

In the dimness of the twilight
I see the fountain where we first met
And in the weakness of my vision
I make out a silhouette

A pale blue spills across the sky
As the morning makes its move
And a ghostly light falls upon the sight
Of a picture from my youth

And there stands my sweet enemy
Time hasn’t touched her eyes
We laugh
We cry
We apologise
All my anger
simply
dies.

Hi Bison

Well done. You've got it off your chest! At least you can see both sides of the story now.

Regards Jeanna

Bison,

A really great poem, the expression of pain, hurt of a loved one so well done, great rhyme, wonderful story as I read, built and constructed perfectly and then the end.....all your anger simply dies, so good and not expected. Now for the sequel, we need to know what happened after thisthumbs up M x
