This is so beautiful and says so, so much in nine short simple words.

Although I am from an island nation I had no idea of what the sea looked like until I was sixteen. This was not the result of a sheltered life but a life of sheer poverty. I was then and have ever since been fascinated by it.

This beautiful piece conjures up images of a winter storm. The feroiousity of the waves draw the sands from the sea floor churning them into a murky potion before causing them to explode against the immovable rocks. The idea of  cockles scurring inwards, then frantically  digging their way to a safe haven completes a picture of tremendous lifeforce.

Thank you for brightening my morning.

Tony

Tony,

We were not very well off when I was young either but I grew up in Tramore so I have been cradled by dunes and sea most of my life, it was free, I call it my bare bronze years. I now live in Greystones, I see the sea from my bedroom window and strangely living abroad in Holland most of my adult life, I was by the sea there too.  Thank you for being so kind to comment on my work. I have been here a year now and have met some wonderful friends, most of them are gone now because of the site problems but you are here a long while too. Hope you have a lovely day.thumbs up Maire

A very wanderful piece Maire ;-D

Hey Maire how goes it, a lovely piece well done.I was born and partially raised by the sea myself and I have always liked being near the sea. Indeed I have often eaten cockles raw and of course oysters. Though I am wary by times as I got very sick once or twice after eating same.I can well picture the rugged rocks being pounded by waves. yes \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\i could hear and smell the sea.Take care,James

Susanna,

So glad the site is working here again. Thank you for your lovely comment. xx

James,

Me and the sea, love any kind of water but strangely I don't like swimming much or getting wet LOL. I am also not a shell fish lover but my children love my fish pie which always has cockles and muscles with cod and salmon and hake or whatever fish I can get fresh here. Good to see you here too, it is working for now, fingers crossed, we can stay a while. Maire x
