On the Perennial Writer's Block

(The writers' block doesn't only accommodate writers.)
The truth, in my opinion, is that the famed writer's block is nothing more serious than a serious lack of talent; it's the difference between constipation and, having just crapped, just crap (being empty). If you really are a writer, the Muse will find you sooner or later, like it or not.

Everyone has a talent for something and most of us also have something we wish we had a talent for. The important thing is not to waste time and effort on something we wish we had a talent for but really don't. That way lies our exploitation by those who manipulate us through our own wishes and dreams.

First and foremost, identify and embrace whatever that 'something' is you have a talent for and only then pursue it, only then give yourself over to it heart and soul.

P.S. Just three words can hole my argument below the waterline - 'define talent itself'. But for those who don't need to go there, I hope my opinion (no more, no less) just holds the water that hole lets in!

P.P.S. By the way, if you really are a writer (define 'writer', I know!) and you really are suffering from writer's block, the cure is the same as it is for insomnia - patience.

Enjoyed this, but I suspect you'd be wise to watch your back in case some of those aspiring writers, who often find themselves 'blocked', come looking for you to retract your scurrilous aspersions. Crap indeed!

Hi, Cheeno, thanks for your comment, apt as ever! This was written nearly two months ago at the same time as my 'acerbic' poem, 'My Take On Writer's Block'. It is merciless, but true to my mood at the time, and I suppose writing will always reflect mood, for good or ill. Cheers for now!

Hi Peter,
I thought that I recognised the ideas from the aforementioned poem. I have to admit to preferring the poetic version - you do the form so well. No crap!
Hope life is treating you well. Good to hear from you.

Thanks, Aine. I value your comments as highly as ever.
How is life treating me? I'm still forging along the transitional tunnel I entered on 8th. June. There is a glimmer of light at the end, which fades in and out of view, but each time I see it, it has grown faintly stronger. Life can be rich during times like these.

Enigmatic, as ever!
I am pleased to hear that there is light on the horizon - remember that it is always darkest just before the dawn.

Good luck with your endeavours.
