All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.
Poetry/flash fiction contest: deadline tomorrow - Friday, October 28
In celebration of Frank X. Buckley and his extensive collection of art, which is on permanent display in the Irish Writers' Centre, the IWC are inviting all writers of both poetry and fiction to write poems and flash fiction based on pieces from the Frank X. Buckley Collection.
On November 24th, IWC will be hosting a night celebrating Frank X. Buckley and his collection along with an abundance of exclusive guests from artistic and literary circles. The authors of the Centre's three favourite pieces will be invited along to read on the night.

Submission Guidelines
- Up the three poems (maximum 40 lines) or
- up to three flash fiction entries (maximum 500 words)
Please send all entries to info@writerscentre.ie and put either ‘Poetry Submission’ or ‘Flash Fiction Submission’ in the subject line.
All submissions should be attached as Word documents.
Closing date for submissions is Friday October 28th.
