All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.

Hi Luke, I got issue 103 of Poetry Ireland Review in the post two days ago, and saw your lovely poem in there, 'Back Garden'. It is a super poem. I love the line;
'there is sorrow to be found
among rained-on garden tools,
and I love;
'There are moments when a teardrop
asks to fall
from the lip of a leaf'
Well done again for getting into Poetry Ireland Review. You are in there with recognised published poets, and that is no easy feat, but so well deserved in your case. Rachael

Thank you, Rachel, for your post. I was touched that you were moved to refer to the poem and let me know that you had read it.
There are some great poems in the issue - have you read Nick Laird's poem about the graffiti? No doubt we'll all be seeing your work in here some day too :)
Thanks again Rachel,
Luke
