    Milk and Cookie Stories is proud to announce the Milk and Cookie Stories Secret Garden Festival – 24 hours of the best storytelling, music and spoken word in the country!

    Think storytelling and marshmallows around bonfires, music played beneath the apple trees, clowning, balloon animals, and of course cookies!  And because, as always, they're a volunteer group working for free, that means they can keep it cheap! €32 will get you membership – which gets you entry to the festival, camping and all the cookies you can eat.

    The inaugural Irish Writers’ Centre Novel Fair for first-time novelists will take place on March 10th 2012.  The Novel Fair aims to introduce up-and-coming writers to top publishers and literary agents, giving novelists the opportunity to bypass the slush pile, pitch their ideas and place their synopsis and sample chapters directly into the hands of publishers and agents.     The Poetry Now International Poetry Festival takes place this week with the best of Irish and international poetry on show.

    Come along to see and hear the best poets from this shore and abroad, including: Don Paterson, Michael Longley, Sinéad Morrissey, Jaan Kaplinski and Luis Garciá Montero.

    World Book Day takes place on Thursday, and The Irish Writers' Centre have a wonderful day of all-things-literary planned for the great occasion...

    The day will kick off at 12pm with a free Inkslingers creative writing session led by Andrew McEneff. This is a structured hour where participants will be given a series of writing prompts and critique. Suitable for all levels of experience and an excellent way to meet other writers.

    At 1pm there will be Lunchtime Poetry Readings with acclaimed poets Peter Sirr, Jean O' Brien, Gerald Dawe, Richard Halperin, Aifric Mac Aodha and Paul Perry.

    There will then be a film screening of James Joyce's 'The Dead' at 3pm followed by a discussion of the short story and film. This will be the first of a series of Madaptations which will be held at the Centre, showcasing films that have been based on books and discussing how the two compare.

    The celebrations will conclude at 7pm with a dramatic performance of The Great Hunger by Patrick Kavanagh.

    So, book the day off, call in sick, do whatever you can to get down to Parnell Street for what will be a brilliant way to spend World Book Day...

    St. Michael’s House are delighted to report that 90 thousand books were successfully swapped by Irish book lovers during the St. Michael’s House ‘Bring a Book, Buy a Book’ campaign 2010!
